It ended the call three times when "too much background noise" prevented my response from being understood I had to search the internet for the correct numerical sequence to bypass the system to be added to the queue for voice support. This was clearly an example of intentionally hindering customer interaction with a person.
When I finally reached an agent and requested a partial refund, I was told that since my automatic renewal was charged on 24 May , the day period for a full refund had expired. I clarified that I was not requesting a full refund and only wished a partial refund for the months I was not going to use. I was told that Norton did not do that.
When I asked to speak to a supervisor, the individual's available time to speak to me kept changing - first it was a couple of minutes, then it was ten minutes, and then it was she had no idea because of "meetings". This is a clear example of the individual's goal to force me to hang up the phone.
I find this reprehensible. The policy is unacceptably rigid, costing people who undergo situational changes outside of Norton's preferred schedule hundreds of dollars. The automated system's intentional hindrance with connection to a person, the company's policy, and the supervisor's treatment of me as a customer are unethical and disrespectful. I used to recommend Norton to friends or family looking for computer protection Since being a member of Norton Identity protection, I have gained a real sense of identity protection while online and in my email usage, as well as on social media.
The price is very affordable and the customer service is very good. I would recommend Norton for anyone. Have been using Norton Internet Security for years with no problem. Very satisfied with the security protection. Just renewed for another year. A few days later I wanted to remove my credit card number from my account like I had done in previous years, but found out that the only way to do this this time was to cancel my subscription.
They are now holding my credit card hostage. This is very unprofessional and not in my best interest. They just want to be able to charge my card any time they want to. Shame on you Norton. Norton keeps me safe while I browse the internet. It identifies malicious websites and also risky email and websites. With the VPN, I know I am safe while browsing the internet and none of my private information is exposed on the internet.
I completely trust Norton and am very comforted Knowing they are there for me. It is well worth the cost. Live agent Save Saved. Get Pricing. About Norton. Overall Satisfaction Rating 5 stars. Bottom Line Norton offers comprehensive digital protection services, from malware to ID theft protection, for one monthly price.
How do I know I can trust these reviews about Norton? Read full review. Oddly Norton was a half way useful product in the days of win98, but for win95 and XP, it was totally worthless. And after Norton spent a decade pissing the knowledgeable off, its somewhat absurd to assume that many will ever be willing to forgive Norton so soon.

I've also only ever bothered with Antivirus. All the "Internet Security" bits ever seemed to do was give me extra firewall headaches.
I used to run Zone Alarm for years before eventually not bothering any more. Sep 7, 17, 24 Look at lingering reputation of ECS due to the affiliation with PC CHIPS, just because of the relatively short period that it produced a lot of craptacular products over a three or four year period beginning around or Oct 12, 20, 3 81 I think it has to do with previous versions.
I would die before a Norton anything is installed on any of my computers. Thetech Senior member. Mar 12, 0 0. IMHO most of those studies are inaccurate. And PC magazine just like PC world Is worthless. The problems with Norton have to do with it's business model of paying for definitions for an old version of Norton and not getting the latest "engine" unless you pay for it.
Also the fact that even if it does protect from viruses the built in firewall and other components of the program cause various OS issues. A common one is disabling internet connections and other odd issues. And I've never found it to be very user friendly and by default Norton "nags" a lot. Thetech said:. Nov 8, 1, 5 Norton's problem is that it uses the same business model as every other commercial software on earth, including every other commercial antivirus software i.
No, Norton works like this as I last recall. Say you bought Norton , each year you are paying for the definition updates for the engine. If you want the or engine you need to pay MORE to upgrade to that version. Last edited: May 12, Aug 26, 0 0. They turned themselves around a bit in the past two years and their products are not as bloated. Most people associated their products with the resource heavy crap they produced prior to VirtualLarry No Lifer. Aug 25, 52, 6, Most people don't even realize this.
I've seen people running Norton thinking that they are paying for "up to date" antivirus software. Some vendors, such as ESET don't work this way. If you use Windows 10, you already have a robust antivirus and anti-malware app— Windows Defender —installed and enabled by default. Windows Defender does have the problem of being the default detection app that malware makers first attempt to work around.
But having layers of security and good habits—especially sticking to official app stores and not downloading questionable free versions of things you should pay for, as we cover in another blog post —should keep you safe from the worst kind of Defender-defeating malware.
AV-Test dinged Windows Defender in protection back in September due to its failure to catch some zero-day malware attacks. In any case, Windows Defender routinely performs as well in lab tests as any paid third-party antivirus software, and when a major vulnerability was discovered in Windows Defender in May , Microsoft was remarkably fast with the fix—from a Friday-night disclosure to a Monday-evening patch.
Due to a combination of demographics, historical precedent, and tighter controls, Macs have historically been less vulnerable to infection than Windows computers:. This is not to say Macs lack any vulnerabilities. Mac owners who install a bad browser extension are just as vulnerable as Windows or Linux users. The Flashback malware exploited a Java vulnerability and tricked more than , Mac users in , affecting about 2 percent of all Macs.
You should still practice safe computing on a Mac and install applications only from the official Mac App Store. Browser extensions can also be problematic, so install only thoroughly vetted extensions that you really need.
