I see you haven't published anything yet, but I thought I'd be the first to 'follow' you. Now you have to publish something! Thank you! My child was in a funk today, as his English teacher told him he was in error in stating that crimson was a derivative of red.
By the by, this is the first Hub page I've ever run across, and I look forward to discovering not only your other pages, but also the entire smorgasbrod of HubPages. Thanks also for the introduction to what will surely be time well spent! It would be nice if a common consensus on the naming of colours could be reached, but of course it won't be.
Still, the best known shades and tones are quite distinctive and clear. By the way, welcome to HubPages - I see your first page on orchids looks quite impressive, so I will return for a more in depth look.
But for the moment, best wishes, and hope you enjoy writing on the site. Impressive details on so many tones of the colour red. Who would have thought there were names for all of them! Then you go to a paint shop for colour charts and that blows you away. I also have green as my favourite colour Thanks Derdriu very much. As I mention at the top of the page, it was really an interest in flowers which of course you share which gave me the idea.
I keep a lot of cacti, and so many of those are of tones which I wanted to describe more accurately than to just call them 'red'. Due to the favourable response I received for this article, I certainly intend to write some more in a similar vein, though you'll appreciate I don't produce many pages each month, and I have a few others already in the pipeline.
Either purple and pinkish purples for a friend of mine or green because it's actually my favourite colour too will be next. And I'll do blue too, I promise! I'll have to try and start soon! Greensleeves Hubs: Thank you for the excellent, precise and thorough definition of terms and explanation of the production and reproduction of the shades and tones of red. The poll is a welcoming touch which makes your readers feel involved and special!
It would be most appreciated if you wrote your hubs on green my favorite and blue, both of which predominate along with reds in a series of illustrations and write-ups on which my sister and I are collaborating.
Information such as you so typically explain, illustrate and organize so finely would be eminently useful. Thanks Seeker for your very nice comment. I'm sure that what you describe must be pretty frustrating - best if possible to try to see in real life before you buy, but I know that's not necessarily practical, with specialist crafts.
Wonderful hub and very useful. I can have similar problems within the crafts that I do such as embroidery and cross-stitch. Especially if you choose your own threads, since some of the colours when they arrive, after having chosen them from a catalogue or on-line are not quite what you expected.
In some cases if the colour if very far out from what you hoped, it can cause your project to loose effect and dimension.
Thank you Denise for your comments. I've always liked the cardinal when I've visited the States - it's a very exotic looking bird considering it lives in comparatively temperate climates.
Thanks also for voting in the poll! I can see why you won the daily drawing, this is a great hub and original idea. Voted up and interesting. Thank you melbel for your words. They mean a lot to me. I guess I will be writing about other colours in due course, though it'll take some time because I can only manage to complete about 4 hubs each month. Believe it or not, green is my favourite too, probably because it's the colour of nature - trees, grass etc - and I suspect we're conditioned to find it the most relaxing of colours.
By the way - sorry you have to put up with my Old World spelling of color! Seriously, Greensleeves, your win is well deserved! I'd love to see one on the color green my fave color. Thanks Simone for visiting and reading.
And thanks for the news about the daily drawing prize! What with a Hub of the Day accolade for another page as well, this has undoubtably been my best day since joining HubPages! Who would have thought it though? I never thought I'd end up writing all about different shades of red!!! What a fascinating exploration of a subject that I had originally thought was much simpler than it actually is. Hurrah for red! Also, congratulations!
Thanks Les Trois Chenes. I'm sure you're right about the possibilities for other pages. Of course there is also the way in which these colours can be created using oil or watercolours, rather than light, which might make a subject for a page useful for other artists? I myself might go on to write about the RGB composition of other colours in the future.
What an interesting idea. I'm an artist but I still hadn't hear of some of these colours. I suppose if you go on to explore further, there would be a wealth of material on cultural, social, historical, psychological etc etc aspects of red. Thankyou Moonlake, and 'Uninvited Writer' you have an invitation to visit whenever you wish! Glad you liked the design of the page; I do try to get the layout of a hub as attractive as I can, so thanks a lot for that comment.
Thankyou melbel! Really glad you liked it.
