Unfortunately, this marks your package as "Refused" or "Returned," which voids the eBay Money Back Guarantee , per this statement:. Generally, the buyer is responsible for accepting the item when it arrives. If the buyer refuses delivery, their claim is not eligible for the eBay Money Back Guarantee. The money that you sent to the seller is now theirs to keep, and you have nothing to show for it. The worst part? This counts as a resolved dispute and you can't leave feedback after dispute resolutions.
There are no good options here. The best one, which might be ethically gray, is to open all packages that come to your house as long as the following are all true:. This is a common scenario where a seller puts up a listing, usually for a hot new item with a lot of buzz like a new gaming console. Its price is set far below the market value. The hope is that you'll see the listing and get so excited by the price that you rush to buy it before someone else does.
Unfortunately, the listing clearly states that the seller is only selling the box for said item. When it arrives, you open the package with excitementonly to realize you just received a box and you've been ripped off.
This is also common with used video games, where people state that the listing is only for the manual or box. Never rush to buy items on an open marketplace. Always read a listing thoroughly before committing to avoid making a stupid mistake. You might be able to dispute the purchase if the seller intentionally hides the fact that it's just a box. But if the first line of the item description explicitly states that the listing is for the "box only" or contains "no game," then you probably won't win a dispute.
Sellers definitely deal with the bulk of problems on eBay. It's far too easy for scammers to hit sellers without much fear of repercussion. To stay safe when selling on eBay, you'll need to be able to spot these issues before they happen. In this scenario, a buyer contacts you and offers to pay a lot more money than you're asking for your item. They'll send an empty cashier's check or a bogus personal check, neither of which will clear.
By then, you've already sent the item and it's too late. This one is easy to fall for, because the promise of extra money is just too hard to resist. Never send items until you have the money in hand or in the bank.
Note that when you deposit a check, it may appear in your bank account right away but can take up to two weeks for it to show as "bounced. For maximum safety, you should never accept checks of any kind on eBay. A similar scam also happens outside of eBay, so keep your eyes peeled for it. If you used a debit card the money's likely gone, but sometimes your bank can still help you and it's worth making the call. If that fails, you can always contact the Internet Crime Complaint Center that one's for America, here's one for Canada.
Like with most theft, it's unlikely you're going to recover anything if it comes to this but that doesn't mean you shouldn't report the scammer to help the next person.
Additionally, don't forget to leave negative feedback on their account and post about them online. Relax and be free from anxiety Take back good sleep and help alleviate pain.
Got any other suggestions for coping with being scammed? Tip Be wary if you see a listing from an account that was previously only used for buying, but is now selling a large number of high-value items.
If you think you're dealing with a fraudulent seller, report it to us as soon as possible. Report an issue. Your safety is one of our top priorities, so we take measures to help ensure your account is secure. There are also several things you can do to prevent your account from being hacked or taken over.
How you contact a seller on eBay depends on whether you've already bought an item from them or not. The time between filing a complaint and real action is too long. I've been trying to find a way to talk to a 'live' person but see no link I wouldn't be too quick to post anything on Facebook. If you follow the procedures eBay has in place that protect buyers as yourself, you wouldn't have a problem. Thats why buyer protection is in place. If you are that impatient about getting an item, it would be better to buy local.
You might make yourself aware of the A-Z index and start reading the rules and policies. It would be a great help to not only know where to find the rules, but to understand them and how they protect YOU. Nothing happens immediately on eBay, so get used to it. You have to wait I don't understand. You know you can open a case. You're being told to wait a couple of days.
What's the big deal? Due to the age of this thread, it has been closed to further replies. Please feel free to start a new thread HERE if you wish to continue to discuss this topic. I had similar issue. Bought 2 Apple iphone battery cases for my kids for christmas from a seller.
I assumed all was well. Wrapped and the girls opened them on Christmas morning. Found they were defective. They would not charge. I contacted seller, but no reply. On the day after Christmas i opened a case. Ebay says you have to give the seller 3 days to respond. If they dont, ebay will step in. I made some private youtube videos to display the issue and sent a link to the private video.
Seller never viewed the video or replied to my requests to return and refund. I called ebay and was on phone with 3 people for an hour and a half. They told me the item was marked and no returns. They told me to give the seller a few more days.
I requested to speak to a supervisor. They claimed they were all busy and one would call me. They never did. Today ebay closed the case and told me the seller refused the return.
